Shan Watters is a contemporary American artist and author whose work is inspired by visible forms of beauty from the natural world that are augmented by her daily meditations on the mysteries of the invisible.

As an intuitive artist her work is informed by such things as shifting seasons of tidal colors, foggy landscapes, deep forests, or maybe the moods of light on craggy shorelines which are all reflected in this series of current abstract works.

Shan is an author, artist and curator. She worked as the Project Coordinator of the Shi-tro Mandala for Universal Peace Project under the auspices of H. E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche.

This project was a five-year venture that supported Tibetan master artists as they built the first, three-dimensional traditional Tibetan Mandala in the U.S.

Shan was also co-creator of Tools for Peace, an arts curriculum that used the Mandala as the basis for teaching peacekeeping in schools, juvenile detention centers, retreat centers and summer camps throughout California and continues to serve over one million people today. Shan also created and taught an arts and peacekeeping curriculum in Los Angeles utilizing a 40 foot-canvas labyrinth as a meditation vehicle for students.

Prior to her work in arts education and peacekeeping, Shan owned and directed L.A. Art and The Sports and Entertainment Gallery, two award-winning galleries in Los Angeles. She also worked as an art consultant for Lonny Gans and Associates. She holds degrees in Fine Art and Anthropology.

Shan is a lifelong student of His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche and the Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo. She has also received teachings and empowerments from many esteemed Tibetan Masters including, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness Drodrubchen Rinpoche, His Holiness Kusum Lingpa, His Holiness Sakya Trizen, His Holiness Taklung Tsetral Rinpoche, His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rinpoche, The Venerable Gonjang Rinpoche, Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, The Venerable Lama Gyatso and others.

Upon retirement she accomplished her lifelong dream of being a full-time artist, exhibiting in various Los Angeles fine art galleries. Her work reflects her devotion to excellence and has evolved into intuitive, abstract paintings.

Shan is the author of three books:

~Mothering the Divine: Birthing, Nurturing and Celebrating Your Divine Self

~Earthstaria: The Mystical Land of the Kindred

~The Rainbow Wind.

Shan lives with her husband George on the California Central Coast where she delights in being a mother and a grandmother.
