I am completely fascinated by color; both gently muted and bold.
They sit like jewels on the canvas, waiting to be discovered and when they are, the painting begins to speak to you.
As I paint, sometimes it is obvious what colors are needed and other times it is a discovery of mixing and experimenting. Part of the discovery is how they influence and change each other.
A series is an inspiration that keeps on giving to you until, or if that inspiration is satisfied. They usually unfold over time, each piece building on the previous one.
There is a magic within water. It goes where it wants, it is life-giving, and without it life would be impossible.
Waterscapes for me are impressionistic and intimate in nature, celebrating the beauty of water in streams, inlets, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, oceans, rain, dewdrops.
Seascapes are a celebration of the majesty of water in its vastness; incomprehensible like the sky it touches at the horizon. The demarcation of the horizon defines the composition’s direction so it is chosen with conscious intent or just thrown in there to see what will happen.
But mainly, we are the ocean. The ocean brings us back to ourselves. Each of our bodies is over half water, with the same saline content as the ocean. We are the ocean.
My paintings are often about landscapes; either emotional or real.
Nature is a bountiful muse, offering endless inspirations and connection to those deeper parts of myself that ties me to her. In every painting she is there, sometimes more hidden than others, but there nonetheless.
Abstractions are about color, form, and space. They are completely free of any particular reference that is recognizable, which not only gives the artist creative freedom, but invites the viewer in to engage their own imagination when viewing them. It is great fun to hear others impressions.
Inspired by the great yogis of Tibet and their ability to attain “rainbow body”, we pay homage to the ultimate state of realization, the rainbow kaya.
The Lotus is an inspirational, metaphysical symbol of the human journey to reach the enlightened state, growing from its muddy roots into a resplendent beauty of light.
These are popular pieces from my pre-abstract paintings for you to enjoy.
